Waikowhai Primary school's Art festival

               Waikowhai Art festival

This week on Tuesday and Wednesday we had the art festival, in  our class were doing bird painting, it

had to be a endangered bird native (only live in New Zealand) to New Zealand.

The bird I done for the painting is a morepork/Ruru  because it was the fist bird I thought of. Also  because it was my house group name. I think what I should do with my painting is make the head smaller and less wide next time. I used different type of browns because the ruru has lot's of brown feathers.I also done some yellow on it's eyes since the ruru is nocturnal (awake at night) it's eyes will be big so it can see in the dark, night sky.

My background for my painting was the ruru sitting on a tree branch at night.I done some bushes with a darker green. The night sky was a dark kind of blue with no stars in the sky and with  tree leaves. The tree leaves were light green and the background was dark so it stand out quite nicely. I thought it was alright,I think I should have made my bird more thin  and have sharper edges. One thing I really liked is the trunk because it blends with the black and brown.

We also done a house. We had to collect soft plastic from each class over 8 weeks. We are doing this because people litter and pollute the world. Are we going to allow littering to our own house and pollute the world? We made a slide show/presentation that is about what are plastic and are not  plastic. It also talks about the message and what we are doing to the house. We made a sign to show our families about the house and what's it for,we done it  on a google drawing. It could be about animals being harmed and about what  we are doing  to the house. We could use anything, our teacher showed the class scribble. Then the teachers laminated our sign.

This is photo of the house (this was when we didn't put the soft plastic)

We also done weaving. We used different kind of coloured yarn and got to choose any colour. All of Te Waka ako done it, and it was so much fun. How we do it  is we go over and under until the yarn is finished. Since we didn't finish it, the weaving was moved to the art show so other people can help finish too.

This is a photo of the weaving we have done

Auckland Zoo trip

                          Blogging about the Zoo

                        Walt:Report,Recount and Reflect
When: On Thursday 14th June we got to school at a quarter to 9.

Where: We went to our school and waited till we got Auckland Zoo

What: As we got to the Zoo we had to wait and listen to the rules by a guide in the Zoo. We saw a lot of animals and some animals moved to new areas to live.

Why: The reason why we went to the Zoo is because our topic for inquiry is about endangered NZ animals.

Who: There were some people in the Zoo that showed us animals around the Zoo and told us more about them. There were also some parents who were there to take care of us.

How:We got transported to the amazing Auckland Zoo by a double Decker bus which was so so high.

My favourite animal was the Meerkat because it was running and standing. When it was running, it was so fast. I thought it kinda looked like a stoat but in different colour. It was adorable and cute.

We also saw a Kea, our guide told us that the kea is smarter and cheekier than children. Our activity was to find all 4 keas, if we found all 4 of them then we are smarter.

We went to the bug lab it was so amazing because it was filled with games. My favourite thing in the bug lab was this hive, we had to rub very fast to make it hot. In the first try it was so hard because I rubbed very hard, but there was a hint to rub fast not hard.

Something I would have done better is to explore more of the places and do more games, but it was still amazing. My favourite animal in the Zoo would have to be the meerkat and the kea. The kea had beautiful feathers and the meekat was so cute.

Des hunt visits Waikowhai primary School

                                        Des hunt visits

Today des hunt visited our school with some  stuff and his wife Lynne. He showed us some of his books and introduce us a little about himself at first. One of the facts is that he's been a science and technology teacher for many years ,anther fact is that he had a pet cat  name puffy but she died, still there is a toy that can make a sound of a cat.he showed us with slideshows with pictures. He said that he was obsessed with chemistry when he was young ,so he done some experiments first one was very surprising  because he used a modified lighter and something.

My favourite part was when he used a balloon pump to blow up a balloon with a cat face, but he also had a eel balloon  that  was gonna burst.I liked this part because the cat was so cute with the face, but it was in a weird shape.I covered my ears because  the  eel balloon pop will explode loud like a elephant doing it's noise.

At the end we done a applause  and thank him for visiting us,he answered 2 questions and at morning tea, some students  bought some  money so they can buy one of the books.Lot's of students wanted to read a friend in paradise.

                                     Hello Everyone

In maths we have been ordering fractions from smallest to biggest we had to answer them, there was a website so we can show what fraction was smaller and bigger,we could put them in how many parts we like and colours to make the fractions , at the end we had to come up with our own fractions and order them.I had my friend Jia helped me because I didn't really know what was smaller and bigger, she also said about something with the numbers to figure out what was bigger and smaller.
