Tread lightly caravan

On Monday, we had went out of class and went to the Kowhai Room.
The Tread lightly Caravan had arrived! We sat on the mat and talked about water and what we need to do to help the ocean.  To make sure we listened, we had to turn to a buddy and say 10 things we used water with today or this week.
The,  we got split into 3 groups . Next, we went to rotations.

The first rotation I did was.... doing things inside. The first thing I did was look at wetlands picture. I discovered some new creatures and that we should protect their habitats. Next we coloured a colouring page of a pukeko. I coloured mine the real colours. I was very surprised cause next we used an app on a phone/iPad. We zoomed our picture out...... my colouring went 3D! Right next to us was some virtual reality headsets. We watched a video of how we should treat them. I put them on just like the video said. There was videos in those goggles. The first one was about some places in New Zealand that lot's of litter in it.
I think the virtual goggles are one of the coolest gadgets this century, (21st).

The next thing we did.... Check out the tread lightly caravan
After that, we went outside. We went to this huge van. It had one teacher, plus one of the school assistant teachers.  The teacher taught us what to put in what. For example, oil has to go in the bin, also can be recycled.  The teacher also taught where the things go to. Like the rubbish goes in the rubbish centre. It is being environmental-friendly if you put things where they should be.

The very last thing we did.... was look at our school drains

Very last was looking at our school drains. We went to the juniors, investigating. There were some rubbish in them. We talked about what we can do to                                                                                                                     (This is not me)

make our drains better. We looked at the senior drains after. I found that the drains near the field were actually cleaner. Did you know that if dirty water goes into the field, the grass purifies the water?Same with the wetlands.

Family fun day

On the 21st of March, we had a family fun day. We do this every year. We do this in house groups and the house captains help the teachers of their house group. I'm in Ruru, and I'm a house captain. All house groups have to switch to try different things. The things all house groups did are....😜👌

Swimming and water slide
Wheel Zones
Bouncy castles
Activities we can do at school

In my blog, I will be telling you about all the fun things I did during that day.

The first thing I did was going near the bank, where the slippery water slide was. We were split into groups. Group 1, 2, 3 and 4. I was in group 3. Group 3 went to the water slide and Group 4. The rest went into our school pool.

I, at first was very nervous and didn't want to try it, but it looked fun so I joined. So I went in the line. When it was my turn, I was excited and nervous at the same time. When I slid down, I was drifting to the side and got very, very grassy. I didn't like it but, I still went on cause it was awesome! I did a couple of turns and unfortunately, it ended.
After a while we had to stop the water slide. We then we went to the School Pools!

I assumed it would warm but I was wrong. It was extremely cold! Underwater and above water, the coldness was still there. When it was time to go, everybody lined up outside.

The next rotation was.... Bouncy castles

We arrived at the bouncy castles. The older students, from Year 3-6 went to the bigger castle first. Everybody went in 2 lines . We had to vs the person next to us and try to go first. The obstacle was too got through the bouncy castles, jump over some hurdles and backs. Later, the teacher, Mr Riceman made a slight change. We had to do the entire course again and go around the field and back. After that I was so tired. Me and the others then swapped and we done the same with other bouncy castle. Through the bouncy castle and over some hurdles.

Next Rotation was......Wheel Zones!

Wheel Zones was where we could use what wheels we brought ( Wheelies, etc) and use them around the court. If we didn't bring one, we could use the school wheels. We had to have helmets.  I got a scooter. I went round lots of times. We done that for around 30 minutes and then it was lunch time! (Play) It was so hot and so I got really tired.😅

After playtime, it was eating lunch time! It was finally time for the bake sale! We did that cause we were raising for camp!

Last rotation was......Activities we can do at school

Since it was very hot, we done things at school. I found this really enjoyable!
We got choices of what we can do. The choices were, to listen/read to picture books, some exercising and play on the the school playground. I chose to exercise. We had done some sprints, races and many more! It was super fun! ðŸ˜ƒ

After that, all of the house groups gathered on the field. We did that cause the 1 minute silence was gonna happen. We did that because of what happened in Christchurch. To show respect to the people who are Muslim.

There are not much photos of my house group. Here is a video!

The memorial assembly

This year, we had a very special assembly. One of the things that made it special is that we spent half of it inside, talking about the Christchurch incident that happened in two Mosques. Then we went outside, to plant a kowhai tree. If you don't know what a kowhai tree, it is a tree that is native to New Zealand. It is even on our uniform logo. When we were outside, one person would represent their culture. There are many people who joined this rare opportunity, such as students, teachers and the principal, Mrs Peterson. There were other surprises too. One person in each class put the card for the people who survived and helped. Because in the morning we made cards for the people in lock down. We also sang 3 songs together, holding hands. It was a bit unusual since we don't normally do that, in fact that was my it was my first time doing it.

My responsibilities as a Year 6

Hi people, today I am going to write about what responsibilities I'm going to do this year. This year I signed up for choir which is where some students in Te Waka Ako will sing in front of a huge audience. It starts around week 8. I am also doing sports room duties with my friend Jia. Sports room duties is when you stay in a room and hand out sports equipment for the first 5 minutes of morning tea and collect them five minutes before the end of morning tea. I am a Year 6 who has the responsibility of being a House captain for Ruru. There is also another person named Zion who is also a house captain with me. Being a house captain is interacting with others and more. You watch in singing assembly who is showing one of the key competency roles, then you give them a house point. Another thing a house captain does is you cheer for your house group in relays in Athletics day. The winning house group gets a free Popsicle at the end of the year, all of your house group. There are 2 house captains in each of the 4 house groups.

These are the house captains

The 4 house groups are ...

Ruru
Pukeko
Kea
